High Speed Treadmill

The high speed treadmill is capable of working up to speeds of 16 meters per second (approx 35mph) and has a variable incline of up to 10%.

The treadmill can be used as both a recuperation and diagnostic tool.

As a recuperative measure the treadmill can be used to assess the physiology and biomechanics of the horse. It can also be used for horses returning to work after a leg injury and need to perform straight line work to prevent putting the additional stress caused by working on a curve. The treadmill will also be used for basic fittening work.

In respect to the diagnostic side, the treadmill enables vets to monitor the horse whilst in fast/hard work. Many equine conditions do not present themselves whilst the horse is at rest, for example heart irregularities and breathing problems.

Horses requiring fast work on the treadmill will need to undergo training on the treadmill prior to veterinary inspection.
